487,000 drug users receive community-based treatment in China

CHONGQING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- About 487,000 drug addicts in China were sent for detoxification and rehabilitation in local communities, according to the China National Narcotic Control Commission (CNNCC) on Tuesday.

The community-based rehab programs has covered more than 80 percent of the country's townships and sub-districts, said Liu Yuejin from the CNNCC.

China launched a project to promote community drug detoxification and rehabilitation in 2015. The project focused on setting up local institutions and recruiting volunteers.

More than 92,000 workstations have been established, with 48,000 staff working for the community-based rehab programs, according to the CNNCC. Enditem
