1st LD: Quake measuring 5.1 Richter scale hits Dodecanese islands

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit on Wednesday Greece's Dodecanese islands in southeast Aegean Sea, off the island of Chalki, the Athens Geodynamic Institute announced.

No injuries have been reported by local authorities, according to Greek national news agency AMNA.

Geology Professor Efthymios Lekkas, head of Greece's Antiseismic Protection Organization, said that there have not been reports for severe material damages as well.

According to Greek seismologists, the tremor's epicenter was located at about 32 km south of Chalki at a depth of 10 km.

Earlier the Euro Mediterranean Seismic Insitute had given preliminary estimates of 4.9-5.3 for the same area. Endit
