1st LD: Car bomb explodes in Syrian refugee camp near Jordan

Xinhua, May 17, 2017 Adjust font size:

A car bomb exploded in a Syrian refugee camp near Jordan on Wednesday, causing heavy casualties, activists said.

The blast hit the Rukban camp in southern Syria near the northern Jordanian frontier, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, without elaborating on the death toll.

Activists said the blast is the second this week, as at least 10 people were killed and tens of others wounded in a blast on Monday in the exact same area.

The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for Tuesday's bombing.

Rukban camp shelters around 100,000 civilians who fled the violence in areas under IS control. Endit
