Lao gov't warns against ransomware computer virus

Xinhua, May 16, 2017 Adjust font size:

Lao Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication is warning Internet users in the country to protect themselves against the WannaCry ransomware virus, which has already spread to many countries around the globe.

According to a notice issued by the ministry recently, the computer virus was detected in many countries although Laos remains unaffected and is continuing its surveillance of the virus, reported local online newspaper Vientiane Times on Tuesday.

The ministry also warns that computer users should have an up-to-date anti-virus program running on their computers at all times and should not download anything from unknown websites or open any files linked in emails from unknown senders.

If a computer is already infected, the user should close the computer immediately to stop the spread of the virus to any other computers connected via a network. Endit
