Chinese stocks rallied strongly on Tuesday as the market regained momentum, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.74 percent to end the day at 3,112.96 points.

The smaller Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.04 percent higher at 10,046.66 points. Total turnover on the two bourses surged to 460.7 billion yuan (about 66.83 U.S. dollars), up from 349.6 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as buying was supported by a solid performance on Wall Street overnight and a rebound in oil prices, but profit taking capped gains.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 49.97 points, or 0.25 percent, from Monday to end the day at 19,919.82.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,778.15, down 0.50 point or 0.03 percent, and the Emas was at 12,738.04, down 9.15 points or 0.07 percent.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Tuesday moved up 8.93 points, or 0.58 percent to close at 1,546.35 points.

Some 10.89 billion shares worth 54.85 billion baht (about 1.59 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- The Indian stock market closed higher Tuesday.

Benchmark indices had a fantastic session, with indices settled at all-time highs.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 41.87 points, or 0.74 percent, to a level of 5,647 on Tuesday.

Some 368,295 transaction were booked, involving 7.8 billion copies of share with total value of 6.6 trillion rupiah (about 496.1 million U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 35.65 points, or 0.14 percent, to 25,335.94 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,228.46 and 25,413.35. Turnover totaled 78.04 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 10.02 billion U.S. dollars).

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index on Tuesday closed at 5,435 points, down 7.62 points from Monday's finish.

Among a total of 324 issues traded, 142 registered gains and 135 incurred losses while 47 remained unchanged.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Tuesday with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 36.5 points, or 1.12 percent, to close at 3,227.71.

A total of 2.26 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.40 billion Singapore dollars (996.33 million U.S. dollars). Decliners outnumbered gainers 292 to 172.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 91.28 points on Tuesday, up 0.18 points or 0.19 percent against the previous trading session.

A total of over 86.867 million shares worth some 827.676 billion Vietnamese dong (some 36.6 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, an increase of 28.7 percent in volume and 10.5 percent in value against the previous trading session.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Tuesday.
