(BRF) China to provide further assistance to Syria as part of Belt and Road Initiative

Xinhua, May 15, 2017 Adjust font size:

The Chinese government will provide further assistance to Syria to implement humanitarian projects, as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, said the Chinese ambassador Monday.

Chinese ambassador to Syria, Qi Qianjin, made the announcement when he met with the head of the Syrian Department for Planning and International Cooperation Imad Sabouni, during which they signed two documents for providing food aid and other humanitarian assistance.

During the event, Sabouni said the ambition of Syria is to be a place of peace.

"The ambition is that this place be a place of peace and a place for a comprehensive cooperation based on mutual interests where each party can find its interest as well as the possibility of benefiting from the products and services," he said.

Sabouni noted that the Belt and Road Initiative is one of the most important initiatives that reinforce the economic support of China to Syria.

For his part, the Chinese ambassador said China is not the only beneficiary of the Belt and Road Initiative, but all participants.

"China stresses that this initiative is not benefiting China alone, but it's of a benefit to all participating countries, and as we say, this initiative is not a solo piece but a symphony played by all participating countries," Qi said.

China will provide assistance worth 60 billion yuan (8.7 billion U.S. dollars) in the coming three years to developing countries and international organizations participating in the Belt and Road Initiative to improve people's well-being, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Sunday. Endit
