3 out of 4 S. Koreans expect Moon's good management of state affairs: survey

Xinhua, May 15, 2017 Adjust font size:

Three out of four South Koreans expected newly-elected President Moon Jae-in's good management of state affairs, a survey showed on Monday.

According to the Realmeter poll, 74.8 percent of respondents showed a positive outlook for Moon's handling of state affairs. Those who gave a negative outlook were 16.0 percent, while 9.2 percent was on the fence.

The survey, commissioned by local broadcaster CBS, was conducted on 1,516 voters from Wednesday to Friday. It has 2.5 percentage points in margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level.

President Moon won a landslide victory in the five-way presidential by-election, which was held last week. He won 41.1 percent of the total votes.

"Justice" was picked as the most important value Moon should keep in mind in his state management, the survey showed. It was followed by communications with people, harmony, equality, peace and decentralization.

The policy agenda people considered the most significant was economic recovery and better livelihood, followed by reform and the removal of deep-rooted evils.

The most significant reform agenda was the reform of the so-called politically-motivated prosecutors, trailed by political reform, media reform, conglomerate reform and bureaucratic reform.

Support for Moon's ruling Democratic Party advanced 3.0 percentage points from a week earlier to 44.7 percent.

The main opposition Liberty Korea Party posted 13.0 percent in support scores, down 4.5 percentage points from the previous week.

The minor progressive Justice Party ranked third, with a 9.6 percent approval rating. It marked the party's highest ever and was up 1.3 percentage points from a week earlier.

Support for the centrist People's Party tumbled 4.8 percentage points to 8.8 percent, logging the first single-digit rating since the party was created in February last year.

The minor conservative Righteous Party garnered 8.3 percent, up 0.9 percentage points from a week earlier. Enditem
