China supports UN leading role in global governance: vice president

Xinhua, May 13, 2017 Adjust font size:

China supports the United Nations (UN) leading role in global governance, praising the UN move to place the 2030 sustainable development agenda as its priority, Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao said Saturday.

Li made the remarks when meeting with Peter Thomson, president of the UN General Assembly, who is in Beijing to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Using the forum as an opportunity, China is willing to work with the UN to advance coordinated development across the globe and achieve win-win results, Li said.

Thomson spoke highly of the Belt and Road Initiative, highlighting its significant contribution to the UN agenda.

The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China in 2013, aims at building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along ancient trade routes. Endi
