Xinhua, May 13, 2017 Adjust font size:

Local star Gong Lijiao scored a convincing victory as she claimed the title of women's shot put at the Shanghai Diamond League meet here on Saturday.

A throw of 19.29 meters in the fifth round already helped the 28-year-old Chinese to clinch the gold, but the world silver medalist went on to hurl her winning mark of 19.46 meters in the sixth round to demonstrate her dominance in the opening event of the night.

Daniella Bunch of the United States finished second at 18.98m and Hungary's Anita Marton, the bronze medalist at Rio Olympic Games, took the third place at 18.69m

It is the third time for Gong to win at the Diamond League Shanghai meeting, following victories in 2011 and 2015 respectively. Endit
