Seven fugitives return to Hainan

Xinhua, May 13, 2017 Adjust font size:

Police in south China's island province of Hainan have captured seven economic fugitives since 2016, authorities said Saturday.

One of the fugitives, Yun Jian, who had been listed on the Interpol "red notice," voluntarily returned from New Zealand last July and surrendered to police. Yun is the former vice chief of the taxation bureau in Longhua District of Haikou, the provincial capital.

People's Court of Longhua District sentenced Yun to three years in prison with a four-year reprieve.

The Interpol "red notice" was issued on April 22, 2015. Some 40 of the 100 fugitives on the list have since been captured, of whom over two-thirds surrendered.

Hainan will increase efforts to locate fugitives. Endi
