China delivers educational aid to Syrian refugees in Lebanon

China's ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian delivered Friday school supplies valuing 1 million U.S. dollars in aid to the Syrian refugee students in Lebanon.

"As part of China's pledge during the last year's UN General Assembly to assist humanitarian cause with 100 million dollars, the supplies will be distributed by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) to help the refugee students overcome difficult situation," Wang said while delivering the supplies at Bekaa town of Saadnayel.

The supplies include stationary, which Wang said would help the students go back to school as soon as possible and relieve them from the negative effects of the war.

UNICEF country office deputy representative Luciano Calestini said that "We are extremely happy that China has joined in helping refugee children because it is a work that has to continue not only for the next few months but for many years to come."

Lebanese teacher Manal Absi working with UNICEF mentioned the sense of solidarity, and how the world's people help each other.

"This shows how the crisis brings people together. This is what we should seek and what UNICEF is seeking," she added. "This aid would affect the students and the feedback about their appreciation for China would be shown in the future." Endit
