Government forces after recapturing Zebak district in the northern Badakhshan province launched fresh operations in the neighboring Yamgan district to evict militants and restore law and order there, a senior police official Shir Mohammad Kamaqwal said Friday.

"A well-coordinated offensive launched late Thursday night against enemies in Yamgan district to smash rebels and restore law and order there," Kamawal told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Taliban-Fightings)

JAKARTA -- The Belt and Road Initiative is very important for maritime nations such as Indonesia, as the country and most of other ASEAN members are located on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, an Indonesian scholar has said.

The China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, with its broad prospects, will definitely push the world economy forward and help Indonesia's economic development, Jusuf Wanandi, senior fellow and co-founder of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a policy research organization, told Xinhua in an interview. HO CHI MINH CITY -- Vietnam took the Chair of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) in the 2017-2018 tenure from Fiji at a ceremony here on Thursday.

Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Saber Chowdhury, IPU General Secretary Martin Chungong, and representatives from parliaments of Asian-Pacific countries attended the event, Vietnam News Agency reported.

CANBERRA -- One of Australia's most notorious Islamic State (IS) terrorists, Neil Prakash, is expected to be extradited to Australia "within months," Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said on Friday.
