Spain's housing sales rise by 26.9 pct in March

Spanish housing sales rose by 26.9 percent in March when compared with the same month last year, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) reported on Thursday.

A total of 40,461 operations were registered in the third month of the year, with sales of second-hand houses rising by 28.3 percent in March year-on-year to 33,100 purchases, and sales of new houses rising by 2.2 percent to a total of 7,361 purchases.

Of the total number of purchases, 89.8 percent belonged to non-subsidized houses in March, whose sales rose by 27.6 percent year-on-year to 36,332.

On the other hand, sales of subsidized houses accounted for 10.2 percent, rising by 21.5 percent to a total of 4,129.

Spain's housing sales have been rising for 14 consecutive months on a year-on-year basis according to the INE, which also reported that housing sales rose by 13.6 percent from February to March. Endit
