Early elections in Kosovo scheduled for June 11

Early parliamentary elections in Kosovo will take place on June 11, "President" Hashim Thaci decreed Thursday.

Thaci made the decision after consultations with political parties and the election commission, said a release from Thaci's press office.

Thaci requested from the institutions to work regularly during the transition period, and that political parties demonstrate political culture before, during and after the elections "to prove that Kosovo remains an example in the region for the organization of free and democratic elections", said the release.

It said that Thaci also invited European Union's international organizations and civil society in Kosovo to monitor the June 11 elections.

Earlier on Thursday, Thaci held a consultative meeting with the representatives of the political parties to set the date of the early elections after Wednesday's vote of no confidence of the government at the Assembly of Kosovo.
