JSE rallies for two consecutive days

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) rallied for two consecutive days on Wednesday as the local unit regained from its recent losses.

The all share index closed 0.15 percent higher at 54,254.35 points, but the industrial index fell 0.16 percent.

The platinum price firmed 0.91 percent at 910.62 U.S. dollars an ounce at 5:00 p.m. (CAT), having dropped from highs of 1,000 dollars an ounce in early March.

Financial index and banks stocks were higher at 0.35 percent and 0.65 percent respectively.

Among individual stocks on the JSE, AngloGold Ashanti was up 4.07 percent to R147, with Sibanye gaining 6.2percent to R27.5. AngloAmerican Platinum was up 1.9 percent to R318.9 and Impala Platinum gained 5.28 percent to R43.85.

Richemont was 0.64 percent softer at R114.07.

Naspers lost 0.33 percent at R2 680.77. Endit
