Outgoing French president chairs last defense council

Xinhua, May 10, 2017 Adjust font size:

Outgoing French President Francois Hollande met with ministers and army chiefs on Wednesday for his last defense council before he hands power over to president-elect Emmanuel Macron later this week.

Hollande discussed domestic security situation including the measures that had been implemented to secure a smooth voting process during last two weeks, his office said in a statement.

He also held talks about French troops' military operations abroad, it added.

Hollande said regular security meetings "have been essential to make decisions" in a context of a high terrorism alert.

Elected in May 2012, the Socialist Party president will hand over power to Macron, his former economy minister. Endit
