Tokyo stocks close lower as investors secure gains

Xinhua, May 9, 2017 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday as investors opted to secure gains following the market's sharp rise Monday and on concern of overheating amid a lack of fresh trading cues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 52.70 points, or 0.26 percent, from Monday to finish at 19,843.00.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 4.09 points, or 0.26 percent, to end the day at 1,581.77.

Transportation equipment, iron and steel, and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprised those that retreated the most by the closing bell, and declining issues outpaced advancing ones by 950 to 918, on the First Section.

Trading volume on the main section on Tuesday totaled 1,990.90 million shares, dropping from Monday's volume of 2,408.08 million shares.

The turnover on the second trading day of the week came to 2,610.3 billion yen (22.98 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
