Lithuania is ready to develop cooperation with France under the leadership of newly elected President Emmanuel Macron, the Baltic country's President Dalia Grybauskaite said in a statement on Monday.
"We greatly value the resolute actions and support extended by France towards ensuring security in our region, assuming responsibility for dealing with key issues on the global agenda and taking on leadership in fighting climate change," Grybauskaite was quoted as saying in the statement.
She expressed her hope that Lithuania and France, under the leadership of the new president, would continue to develop successful cooperation and will have an open dialogue on security and European issues.
The overwhelming victory by Macron demonstrates resilience of the French people against any attempts to manipulate them through elections and their continued faith in the European project and democratic values, Grybauskaite added.
According to her, ambitious pro-European politics in France defeated populism and nationalism.
"European countries must stand united, given today's economic and political challenges and the threat of terrorism," Grybauskaite underlined in the statement.
According to the data from Lithuania Statistics, France stands 12th among the Baltic country's top export partners, eight among main import sources. Enditem
