Danish politicians including Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen have sent messages of congratulation to Emmanuel Macron, who won the French presidential election on Sunday.
Rasmussen said on his Twitter account that his government looked forward to cooperation with France.
"We can achieve more together than on our own. Looking forward to our cooperation," the prime minister said shortly after the voting results were announced.
Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen also expressed his congratulations to Macron on Twitter in both Danish and French.
"We must strengthen the free trade, growth, employment, security in European Union and continue the military cooperation," Samuelsen said.
Macron won Sunday's runoff vote of the French presidential election, defeating his far-right rival Marine Le Pen, according to polling agency projections issued after the vote.
An estimation by research firm Elabe for BFMTV show that Macron won the presidential race with 65.9 percent of the vote, while Le Pen scored 34.1 percent.
Other estimations also indicate that Macron garnered between 65 to 66.1 percent of votes, and Le Pen between 33.9 to 35 percent. Endit
