Kenya's bourse equity turnover dips on low volumes traded

Kenya's Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) closed the week Friday on a low as equity turnover declined 41 percent following low volume of shares moved.

Some 17 million shares valued at 4.5 million U.S. dollars were traded, down from 23 million worth 7.6 million dollars in the previous session.

Safaricom, Kenya's leading telecom was the day's biggest mover after trading 12 million shares. The stock attracted the most foreign sales and buys.

The rest of the top traded stocks did not move more than a million shares, with Paint marker Crown Berger coming in second with 855,100 shares traded at 0.55 dollars.

The NSE 20 share Index closed Friday at 3,147.04 from 3,144.38 while the All share Index ended at 135.22 from 134.58 in the previous session.

The bond market trading declined with bonds worth 14 million dollars transacted as compared to 21 million in previous session. Endit
