British shares edge up slightly

British shares edged up slightly on Thursday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up 0.19 percent, or 13.57 points, to close at 7,248.10 points.

International Consolidated Airlines Group rose 2.97 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Tour agency TUI gained 2.92 percent. Banking giant HSBC Holdings rose 2.88 percent.

British multinational clothing, footwear and home products retailer Next plc plunged 5.1 percent, the top loser of the blue chip. Mining firms Antofagasta and Anglo American fell 4.69 percent and 4.16 percent, respectively. Endit
