Pile-up kills 5, injures 11 in north China

Xinhua, May 4, 2017 Adjust font size:

Five people were killed and another 11 injured in a pile-up involving two trucks and one coach Thursday in north China's Shanxi Province, authorities said.

The accident happened around 3:20 p.m. near a highway toll gate in the city of Linfen, as a truck ran out of control and hit a coach running in the same direction.

The truck, carrying 23 people, then crashed into another truck in front, said a spokesman with the local government.

Three people were killed at the scene and another two died in hospital.

Injuries of another two are serious but not life-threatening.

Initial investigations showed the accident was caused by braking malfunctions of the first truck, said the spokesman. Endi
