The second batch of materials sponsored by China for Laos to combat locust plague has been handed over to the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) on Thursday in Lao capital Vientiane.
Economic Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Laos Wang Qihui and Director General of MAF's Department of Agriculture Vilaysouk, on behalf of the two governments, signed the handover document.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lao Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Lien Thikeo said whenever Lao people encounter difficulties, the Chinese government always provides prompt support.
In the past year, thanks to the first batch of materials sponsored by China to eliminate locusts, as many as one third of the areas impacted by locust plague have been under control. Laos will continue taking the best use of the materials to eliminate locusts, so that farmers can soon return to normal production and life.
In order to help Laos fight locust plague, under the consensus reached by the two governments, the Chinese government agreed to provide emergency aid for Laos to deal with the plague. The materials handed over this time include cars, manual sprayers, backpack sprayers, protective suits, and computers.
