Nigerian president takes to medical advice: minister

Xinhua, May 3, 2017 Adjust font size:

Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed said Wednesday President Muhammadu Buhari is taking his doctors' advice so that he can fully recover.

The minister told reporters in capital Abuja after the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) that Buhari continues to take a rest from official functions on the advice of his doctors.

"The president chose today to rest, he was in his office yesterday, which you all reported," he added.

Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presided over the meeting at the State House Abuja.

It was the third time that Osinbajo presided over FEC meeting since President Buhari returned from medical vacation in Britain on March 10.

Mohammed had told reporters last Wednesday that Buhari was resting and working at home, as part of reasons why Buhari did not attend last Wednesday's meeting.

There have been controversies over the state of health of President Buhari, who returned to the country after a 49-day medical sojourn in London. Endit
