Masked gunmen on Wednesday targeted two more banks in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir and looted cash worth thousands of dollars on gunpoint, police said.

The burglary took place at two places in Pulwama district, about 35 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. (India-Loot)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan and Iran agreed on Wednesday to boost border security and revive hotline between border security forces of the two countries.

The agreement came one week after 10 Iranian border guards were killed in clashes with militants in southeastern Iran near the Pakistani border.

Iranian leaders had alleged that the gunmen had "used Pakistani soil for the attack." (Pakistan-Iran-Cooperation)

KABUL -- The local affiliate of the Islamic State (IS) group on Wednesday carried out a suicide car bombing at a U.S. military convoy in Afghanistan's capital that killed eight Afghan civilians.

The IS-linked "Amaq" news website has claimed in an online Arabic language statement the attack which also injured 27 others including three service members of the NATO-led Resolute Support. (Afghanistan-Attack)

BANGKOK -- Bangkok remains the top destination in terms of visitor numbers out of 171 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, the latest figure from the influential Mastercard Asia-Pacific Destinations Index 2017 showed.

It welcomed 19.3 million international overnight arrivals in 2016 of the 339.2 million visits made to the 171 Asia-Pacific destinations on the Mastercard list. The Thai capital dethrones Singapore, which attracted 13.1 million. (Thailand-Bangkok-Tourism)

JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government has warned Japan's largest oil and gas company Inpex Corporation over development of a gas field in the eastern part of the country.

Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan on Wednesday threatened to abort a production-sharing contract (PSC) on the Masela block with Inpex if there is no progress in conducting a preliminary front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) on the field.
