Dutch A2 highway reopens after packet mistaken for bomb

Xinhua, May 3, 2017 Adjust font size:

The A2 highway in central Netherlands reopened on Wednesday afternoon after over one hour of block caused by the earlier finding of a packet resembling an explosive.

The packet was found earlier in the morning in a pasture adjacent to the highway near the city of Nieuwegein, about 50 km to the southwest of Amsterdam.

The packet, consisting of a number of tubes tied together with a string, might be an object abandoned in the context of a search during a children's party, reported Dutch media quoting the Explosives Investigation Defense (EOD) squad at the site.

The road block had caused over 30 kilometers of traffic jam as the police did not rule out the possibility that the packet would be an explosive. Endit
