Malta's unemployment at half EU average

Malta's unemployment rate in March stood at half the EU average, data published by Eurostat, the statistical agency of the European Union (EU), revealed on Tuesday.

At 4.1 percent, Malta's rate was the third best in the EU, trailing the Czech Republic with 3.2 percent and Germany with 3.9 percent.

The highest rates of unemployment were registered in Greece with 23.5 percent, and Spain with 18.2 percent.

The EU 28 rate, at eight percent, was the lowest recorded by Eurostat since 2009, down from the 8.7-percent unemployment rate registered 12 months ago.

Compared with a year ago, the unemployment rate in March 2017 fell in 23 member states, remained stable in France and Austria, and increasingly slightly in Denmark, Italy and Lithuania. Endit
