Two armed militants, including a suicide bomber, were killed on Sunday in a security operation in the city of Sidi Bouzid in central Tunisia, Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said in a press statement.

A total of four militants were captured alive, a security source on condition of anonymity told Xinhua.

The operation was carried out by specialized security units, including the special forces of the National Guard, which have been hunting these militants for weeks.

"On high alert for weeks, the security forces located the terrorist elements of this group before being able to neutralize two of them and capture other elements alive," said Youssef Chahed at the academy of the National Guard in Bir Bouregba, 60 km south of the capital Tunis.

According to Chahed, the extremist group was planning to carry out terrorist attacks during the holy month of Ramadan. Endit
