Xinhua, April 30, 2017 Adjust font size:

At least five people were killed and 49 others injured Saturday night after tornadoes hit the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Texas.

The U.S. National Weather Service confirmed that at least three tornadoes struck in Eustace, Caney City and Canton in northeast Texas, causing extensive damage, including partial collapse of a car dealership's building.

Overturned vehicles, downed trees and damaged homes could be seen in the tornado-hit area.

Authorities believe that the number of injured people may increase as the search continues.

Local Red Cross has set up shelters for those who have been impacted by the tornadoes. Endi
