Heavy snow hits Czech Republic

Due to the heavy snowfall at Thursday night, around 10,000 Czech homes were left out of power supply on Friday morning in South Bohemian region in the Czech Republic.

The heavy snow also fell trees, complicating conditions on roads and causing delays on the country's railway routes.

The police of South Bohemian region have declared road calamities earlier in the morning due to the heavy snow.

South Bohemian police spokesman Milan Bajcura said that the police had to stop traffic because it is inconvenient due to the fallen trees and the heavy snowfall on the roads.

Some railway tracks were blocked by fallen trees, and some railway lines were stopped because of the threat of fallen trees.

More than 10,000 households in South Bohemiaian were out of power supply in the morning, and part of the supply can only be restored by Saturday. Most malfunctions were reported in Cesky Krumlov and Prachatice.

In the Jeseniky Mountains region, about ten centimeters of snow fell at Thursday night which caused traffic difficulties in the region.

Regional police spokesman Petr Pinos said the police alerted the driver of the traffic-related calamity caused by heavy snowfall in the region, and in some sections of the road, only winter gear are suitable.

In the Moravian-Silesian, Olomouc and Zlin regions, the level of the rivers rose after the night-long rainfall. The lowest (third) and the second level of flood alerts were declared in some places.

Heavy rain is expected to continue in the region until Saturday noon. Endit
