Xinhua, April 28, 2017 Adjust font size:

A Saudi policeman died and another was injured in cross shooting with a group of terrorists in disturbed region Qatif in the Eastern Province, Sabq local online news reported on Friday.

No official confirmation was made yet, while the news report said that the incident occurred at dawn of Friday at a farm in Saihat. The two officers on duty were on routine field operations, when they were surrounded and shot.

In June 2016, an on-duty traffic officer was shot dead also in Saihat, while in November 2015 two policemen were shot dead when their police jeep was attacked.

Besides the sleeping cells of the Islamic State (IS) militant group, Saudi Arabia has been fighting violent groups in Qatif region for years, who are members in Saudi Shiite minority community demanding more rights in the conservative Sunni state. Endit
