Slovak fruit growers are expected to suffer economic losses of around 8 million euros (8.7 million U.S. dollars) this year due to the frost in the second half of April.

"We produce around 60,000 tonnes of fruit per year, but it seems that it will only be 40,000 tonnes this year," said Slovak Fruit Growers Union president Marian Varga on Friday.

He said that the damage will also push up fruit prices, which may grow by as much as 10 percent this year.
