1st LD Writethru: 7 suspected militants killed in U.S. drone strike in NW Pakistan

Xinhua, April 27, 2017 Adjust font size:

At least seven suspected militants were killed when U.S. pilotless aircraft launched missile strikes in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of North Waziristan on Thursday, local Urdu media reported.

Aaj News said that the U.S. drones fired two missiles to pound two hideouts of the suspected militants in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan, a semi-autonomous tribal area located along Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Quoting tribal sources, the report added that both the hideouts were completely destroyed in the attack that took place at about 2 p.m. local time (0900 GMT).

The killed included a commander of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and his six accomplices who were holding a meeting in one of the targeted hideouts.

Thursday's drone strike is second of its kind in Pakistan since the beginning of this year.

On March 2, at least two suspected militants were killed in a similar attack in the neighboring tribal area of Kurram agency.

Pakistan is against the drone strikes within its territory as it calls them violation of its sovereignty. Endit
