The following are news highlights in Ethiopia's major media outlets on Thursday.

-- The second national human rights action plan of Ethiopia which endeavors for the better promotion and protection of human rights was launched on Wednesday.

The action plan that runs until 2019 was approved by the House of the Peoples' Representatives in December 2016. The action plan includes detailed directions which will contribute to undertake human rights centered development activities and strengthen human rights institutions. (Ethiopian News Agency/ENA)

--Ethiopia and Rwanda have agreed on new areas of cooperation at a meeting which concluded in Kigali on Tuesday, an official who attended the two-day session said.

The new areas of partnerships are in fields such as education, tourism and mutual legal assistance, according to Claude Nikobisanzwe, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Rwanda. (Fana Broadcasting Corporate/FBC)

-- Ethiopia has completed preparations to open its embassy in Kigali, Rwanda, according to the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ethiopia has been carrying out its diplomatic relation with Rwanda through its embassy in Uganda.

In his weekly briefing for the media, the Spokesperson, Meles Alem said the opening of the embassy will have a crucial role in enhancing the bilateral ties between the two countries. Rwanda has opened its Embassy in Ethiopia since 1978. (Ethiopian News Agency/ENA)
