Top legislature adopts quota for 13th NPC deputy election

Xinhua, April 27, 2017 Adjust font size:

Chinese lawmakers adopted plans Thursday for a quota distribution for the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) deputy election, as the tenure of current lawmakers expires in March 2018.

The election of deputies to the 13th NPC shall be completed in January 2018, two months before the end of five-year term of the current 12th NPC, according to the bimonthly session of the NPC Standing Committee, which opened Monday.

According to the plans, no more than 3,000 deputies should be elected to the 13th NPC, with 36 from Hong Kong and 12 from Macao.

Deputies from ethnic minority groups will account for about 12 percent of the total.

Taiwan will have 13 deputies for the time being, to be elected by a 122-strong group consisting of Taiwan compatriots from provincial-level regions, central departments and the People's Liberation Army. Endi
