An Algerian top official on Tuesday said there is no alternative to political settlement for the six-year civil war in Libya, adding that Libya's neighboring countries will meet in Algiers on May 8.
"Reconciliation and inter Libyan dialogue are inevitable for bringing back peace and security in this neighboring nation," said Minister of Laghreb Affairs, Arab League and African Union, Abdelkader Messahel quoted by the state run television.
He added that "if we want to find a political solution to the Libyan crisis, we have to ensure security in the region," stressing the need for "consensual political solution ahead of building strong institutions, unified army, security services and a stable state."
Messahel further recalled the different scourges threatening the region, including terrorist groups, criminal organizations, illegal migration and organized crime.
As part of the efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the Libyan conflict, Algeria held separate talks with Libyan high officials, including the commander of the Libyan National Army, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and Fayez al-Serraj, head of the presidency council of the Government of National Accord.
