Abstention in French election first round estimated at 20 pct

The abstention rate in the 2017 French election is estimated to be 20 percent, according to a poll conducted by research firm Elabe, local broadcaster BFMTV reported.

The figure can reach 22 percent, according to another estimate by Ipsos/Sopra Steria for several French media including France Televisions, Radio France and newspaper Le Monde.

In the first round of the previous election in 2012, the abstention rate stood at 20.52 percent. Endit
