Spring snowstorm hits BiH

Xinhua, April 19, 2017 Adjust font size:

A spring snowstorm hits most of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and especially the mountains on Tuesday night, reported the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute.

After precipitation and rapid cooling, snow firstly hit Jahorina and Vlasic mountains, continuing to other cities of north and central BiH.

Wet and slippery roads have hampered travel throughout most of central BiH and especially the entrance to the capital.

The Federal Hydrometeorological Institute says a cold front will lead to snow in many parts of the country until Thursday evening.

As a previous warm weather led plants and trees to bloom, the sub-zero temperatures are causing concern, especially for farmers.

Residents of BiH especially remember the time when the snow fell in May 2012, and older generations remember snow in August 1978.

On the Bjelasnica mountain, 25 kilometers southwest from Sarajevo, the scene is more reminiscent of winter than the spring. Endit
