Bulgarians 2.4 pct richer in 2016: official data

The total average income and expenditure per household member in Bulgaria in 2016 rose by 4.3 percent and 1.9 percent respectively compared to 2015, official data showed on Tuesday.

The annual total income average per household member in 2016 was 5,167 Bulgarian lev BGN (2,808 U.S. dollars), while spending stood at 4,755 BGN, Bulgaria's National Statistical Institute (NSI) said.

As many as 54.3 percent of the income came from wages, 31.2 percent from social transfers and 6.2 percent from self-employment, the NSI said.

Meanwhile, 30.8 percent of household expenditures went for food, 18 percent for housing, 6.9 percent for transport, and so on. (1 U.S. dollar=1.836 Bulgarian lev) Endit
