A state-assisted funeral was accorded to Singapore's late pioneer Cabinet Minister Othman Wok on Tuesday, according to local media.
Othman, who was among Singapore's first generation of leaders and also a champion for Singapore's multiracialism, passed away at the age of 92 on Monday.
On Tuesday afternoon, Othman's body was transferred with a gun carriage carrying the casket from the Sultan Mosque to the burial site amid a heavy downpour.
The State-assisted Funeral Organizing Committee said in a statement that "a state flag was placed over the casket, with the crescent and stars lying over the head and close to the heart of Othman."
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Monday acknowledged Othman's contribution to Singapore during the early days of independence.
"He was a key member of Lee Kuan Yew's Cabinet during the critical period when Singapore was in Malaysia, and then separated from Malaysia to become an independent republic," said the PMO.
Hundreds of attendees have come to send off Othman. A Memorial Service for Othman will be held at the Victoria Concert Hall on Wednesday. Endit
