Namibian boxer Indongo becomes triple world champion

Namibia's double World Boxing Champion, Julius 'Blue Machine' Indongo on Saturday night won his third world title when he beat his Scottish opponent in Glasgow, Scotland, according to Nampa (Namibia Press Agency).

Indongo beat World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Lightweight champion, Ricky Burns on points to consolidate the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and WBA Super Lightweight divisions.

The Namibian, who holds the IBF and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) World Super Lightweight titles, which he won in December 2016 after beating Russia's Eduard Troyanovsky in Moscow, dominated the fight throughout the 12 rounds.

Indongo showed Burns his intention to win from round one, as he kept him at bay throughout the fight.

Burns tried to fight back in the seventh round with a number of body shots but Indongo outclassed him in front of his silenced supporters, with his speed and jabs that kept Burns on the canvas.

All three judges scored the fight in favour of Indongo, 120-108, 118-110 and 116-112, making him the first Namibian to hold three world titles at the same time.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the fight, Indongo said he was happy to unify the titles and his hard work was for the Namibian nation and Africa as a continent.

Indongo is undefeated, with 22 fights and 22 wins. He is a southpaw (left handed boxer), aged 34.

He is now likely to face Terence Crawford, the current Lightweight World Boxing Organisation and World Boxing Council undisputed champion of the division. Endit
