U.S. President Donald Trump will speak at the annual leadership forum of the National Rifle Association (NRA) later this month, the group has announced.
The NRA, a powerful lobbyist group that holds sway in the Republican Party, tweeted that Trump's scheduled appearance at this year's NRA forum in Atlanta, Georgia on April 28.
As the then presumptive U.S. Republican presidential nominee, Trump once pledged that he would eliminate gun-free zones if elected after he won the NRA endorsement for president.
However, Trump's latest remarks on gun-free zones marked a departure from his earlier statements.
In 2012, he publicly supported former U.S. President Barack Obama's call for tougher gun-safety measures in the wake of a shooting incident at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut that killed 20 children. Endit
