India's ruling BJP wins crucial by-poll in national capital

India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday won by a huge margin the by-poll held for a crucial assembly constituency in the national capital, decimating Delhi's ruling anti-graft Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The by-election in west Delhi's Rajouri Garden assembly constituency, which is seen as a precursor to the civic body elections in Delhi slated for April 23, came as a blow for AAP which only got 10,000 votes.
BJP's winning candidate Majinder Singh Sirsa said that the results indicated that people had rejected AAP. "This is the end of AAP-led government in Delhi," he told the media.
AAP has, however, denied that the result could have an impact on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls.
"AAP loss in Rajouri by-poll won't impact civic elections. The performance of our government will ensure AAP's victory in civic polls," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said.
The Rajouri Garden assembly seat fell vacant early this year after AAP's legislator Jarnail Singh quit to contest the assembly polls in the northern state of Punjab, where the anti-graft party lost badly to the country's main opposition Congress party.
The win has taken the BJP's tally from three to four legislators in the Delhi assembly, dominated by AAP that swept the 2015 elections. Endit
