The Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) has selected Uganda to host the 2017 FIBA Africa Zone V Club Championships for both women and men.

Ambrose Tashobya, Federation of Uganda Basketball Association president told Xinhua in an interview on Wednesday that the event will be held in October.

Uganda's City Oilers and Kenya's Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) are the defending champions in the men and women categories respectively.

The regional club competition attracts the League champion teams from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi and Egypt.

The annual regional basketball competition is staged by member countries on a rotational basis. Uganda hosts the event after Tanzania staged last year's edition while Rwanda organized the 2015 edition.

While City Oilers will represent Uganda in the men's category, UCU Lady Canons will take part in the women's category. Rwanda will be represented by League champions Patriots and APR for the men and women respectively. Endit
