Guangzhou Evergrande drop to 2nd in AFC Champions League Group G

Xinhua, April 12, 2017 Adjust font size:

Two-time champions Guangzhou Evergrande were held to a 0-0 draw by Japan's Kawasaki Frontale in the AFC Champions League Group G here on Wednesday.

Thus, Guangzhou dropped to the second in the group as Suwon Samsung Bluewings stunned bottom side Eastern SC 5-0 to move atop, while Kawasaki remain in third after four consecutive draws.

The Chinese Super League side dominated from very early in the first half. Goulart nearly took the lead for Guangzhou but his effort from right side of the box narrowly missed the target in the 5th minute. Paulinho tested keeper Jung Sung-ryong in the 10th minute by his powerful free-kick shot. Jung kept out Yu Hanchao's strike in the 35th minute to maintain a clean sheet in the first half.

The Japanese side responded well in the second half as Eduardo Neto and Rhayner making treats, but neither team could send the ball home. Endit
