Sao Tome and Principe's Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada Wednesday started an official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

His seven-day visit came less than four months after Sao Tome and Principe resumed diplomatic ties with China after the African nation cut "diplomatic ties" with the Taiwan region.

Trovoada, born in Gabon on March 18, 1962, pursued his studies in Portugal and France.

In the 1990s, Trovoada served as Sao Tome and Principe's presidential advisor on economic and international affairs. From September 2001 to February 2002, he served as foreign minister.

Trovoada twice served as prime minister of the African country, from February to May 2008 and from 2010 to 2012.

In October 2014, Trovoada's Independent Democratic Action party won the parliamentary elections and he became prime minister for the third time. Endi
