The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport (MoT) is proposing to invest 140.116 trillion Vietnamese dong (6.22 billion U.S. dollars) in construction of the first phase of the countrys north-south expressway.

Of the sum, the state will sponsor some 55 trillion Vietnamese dong (2.44 billion U.S. dollars) for the 684-km expressway section, reported local Sai Gon Giai Phong (Sai Gon Liberation) newspaper on Wednesday.

It is expected that in the 2017-2022 period, a four-lane road with 17-25 meters wide will be built in Vietnams northern Ninh Binh, central Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, south central Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan and southern Dong Nai provinces, in the form of Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

In the second phase (from 2023 to 2028), the expressway's remaining sections of 688 km long will be built with an investment of 103.196 trillion Vietnamese dong (4.59 billion U.S. dollars), of which, some 44.456 trillion Vietnamese dong (1.97 billion U.S. dollars) is funded by the state.

The third stage will be implemented after 2028 with an investment of 69.123 trillion Vietnamese dong (3.07 billion U.S. dollars) to complete the entire 1,372 km expressway, said the ministry. Endit
