Gambia's National Assembly elects new speaker

Members of the National Assembly of Gambia on Tuesday elected Speaker of the house in the person of Mariam Jack Denton among the 5 nominated members by the President Adama Barrow.

Her voting was not controversial as her counterpart who was nominated declined to contest against her for the Speaker position.

The house also elected the deputy Speaker Modou Sanneh.

In accordance with the standing order of the National Assembly, the house without controversy elected Kebba K. Barrow the Majority leader from the United Democratic Party who got the highest seats in the house.

Samba Jallow retained his position as the minority leader of the house after he won against his contenders. Jallow represented the National Reconciliation Party who is also a member of the Coalition that helped President Barrow to gain victory in the December presidential election last year. Endit
