New Granada coach, Tony Adams said on Tuesday that he aims to give the players at his new club a "kick up the arse" as they look for a miracle to escape relegation to the Spanish second division.
Adams, who had recently been named Granada's Sporting Director, was named as the replacement for Lucas Alcaraz on Monday after defeat to Valencia left the club second bottom of the Liga Santander, seven points from safety with just seven games to play.
He has close relationship with Granada's Chinese owner, Jiang Lizhang and is vice-president of his DDMC Football Club Management Company, but admitted on Tuesday, he had not expected to be asked to take over the first team.
"I've been here five months and I didn't see this coming," said Adams, who thanked his predecessor and said he would "try to win every game and will try some things in training to liven up the team as we try to achieve a miracle."
He also hinted that he is only in the role for a short time, but made it clear he would try to make changes in attitude among the Granada playing staff.
"I'm very much an interim coach ... I'm here to give the players a kick up the arse and to win games. I have 40 years of experience. Practice makes perfect, that is my way," continued the 50-year-old, who has previously coached with Wycombe Wanderers, Portsmouth and in Azerbaijan.
"I want us to be tough to beat; we've conceded too many goals. We will fight to win every game; that is what the president wants and it is what the fans want," said Adams, whose debut will be against Celta Vigo on Sunday. Endit
