Spain's three-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez took pole position in the Argentine Grand Prix on Saturday, eclipsing Czech rider Karel Abraham in wet conditions at the Termas de Rio Honda circuit.

Marquez posted a best time of one minute 47.512 seconds on his Honda, 0.763 faster than Ducati's Abraham. Cal Crutchlow of Britain was third on his LCR Honda.

It was the 38th pole of Marquez's career and his fourth in succession at the Argentine Grand Prix.

Spain's Maverick Vinales, who won last month's rain-affected season opening race in Qatar, qualified sixth on his Yamaha.

His teammate, seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi of Italy, was seventh fastest with a time of 1:49.272. Endit
